Mantori
is the fastest driver in the qualifiers with a time
of 48”419, only 23/1000 of a second ahead of
an excellent Spreafico. Calcinati and Ferri started
from the 2nd row, while the third row was formed by
Campo and Fichera. Viets was only 7th (North-East
Area Champion), while American champion Kris Rock
was only 20th, paying for his poor knowledge of the
tricky Emilia circuit. At the green light, Mantori
made a good start, ahead of Calcinati, Spreafico,
Ferri, Fichera, Tommaso Campo, Stringhini and Viets.
In the course of the 1st lap, there was a contact
between Sommariva and Freile sr, while Calcinati got
right behind leader Mantori. A spectacular group was
on the lead, with 11 drivers, each in the slipstream
of the other. In the third lap, Calcinati took the
lead, while in the following lap Ruga sent his kart
into a spin. In the 5th lap, Calcinati was still leading
a group of 6 drivers: Mantori, Spreafico, Fichera,
Ferri and Viest. Lagging behind were Stringhini, Campo,
Marzi, Napolitano, Sandrolini, Brioschi, Zaid, Bambace,
Galindo and Venturi. In the following lap, Kris Rock
was forced to withdraw from the race. In the 11th
lap, Spreafico overtook Mantori, while Calcinati gained
several metres of margin over his pursuers. At this
point, Mantori found himself in a tight spot and had
to quickly give up his position to Fichera, Ferri
and Viest. In the 17th lap, Fichera overtook Spreafico
for the 2nd place, while Viest passed ahead of Ferri.
In the following lap, Viets got into Spreafico’s
slipstream, overtaking him shortly afterwards thus
seizing the third position. In the central section
of the ranking, a compact group of drivers had formed,
with Brioschi engaged in defending himself from Sandrolini
and Guatemala driver Felipe Zaid. Performing an amazing
comeback after the contact in the first lap, Guillermo
Freile overtook in quick succession Galindo and Viganò.
In the 20th lap, race leader Calcinati had a lead
of 3 seconds over Fichera and Viets. From his 4th
position, Spreafico controlled Mantori and Ferri,
while Campo led the chasing group formed by Napolitano,
Marzi, Sandrolini and Brioschi. The last laps witnessed
the withdrawal of Bambace and Gaggio, while Calcinati
had no trouble in keeping Fichera under control until
the finishing line: the Team Superteam driver won
the National and International titles, entering his
name into the list of prizewinners of this trophy,
awarded for the first time in the Heavy category.
Salvatore Fichera concluded an extraordinary season
with a second placement, while Viets seized the third
overall place. Spreafico ended 4th, but was excluded
from the ranking by the Clerks of the Course for being
underweight at the checks at the end of the race.
Rmk team driver Roberto Ferri, therefore, climbed
up one position, ahead of Campo and Napolitano of
the team Fast Racing. Giacomo Marzi (Blu Racing) finished
8th ahead of Stringhini, Brioschi, Sandrolini, Zaid,
Freile, Viganò, Galindo.
