Montoro,
racing with the Fg Racing team colours, was at the
top of the ranking and was able to record a time of
47” 208. Next to him qualified Alberto Cola
(Fast Racing), while Gagliano and Gaspari made it
to the second row. The leader of the Italian Area
Championships Alfieri was only 7th, while the International
Champion title holder Cobianchi couldn’t even
go beyond the 16th place. The American Champion Freire
Jr wasn’t any luckier, only 20th; the same can
be said of Dominc Sheer (Champion in the 100 cc category
in 2004), who finished 28th, the last in the ranking
of the qualified drivers at the end of the qualifiers.
At the start of the warm-up lap, bad luck stopped
one of the most promising competitors, Davide Pavan,
who suffered from an engine failure. At the green
light, Montoro seized the lead, ahead of Cola, Gagliano,
Colombian Gaspari, Takeshi, Scarlato, Chiesa, Alessandra
Neri, Alfieri, Cobianchi and Compagnone. An illustrious
victim suffered the confusion of the first lap: motorbike
champion Pirovano, who was last after a collision.
The long line of the 34 finalists proceeded compact
and on the stretch after the Ciack the spoiler flew
away from Ballarini’s vehicle after a contact.
The same occurred few bends later to Scheer. Both
had to stop at the pit and restarted the race with
a great delay. In the second lap, Gagliano launched
his attack and overtook Cola to earn the second position.
In the 5th lap, Montoro was ahead of Gagliano, Cola,
Scarlato, Takeshi, Guerrero, Alfieri, Gaspari, Compagnone,
Chiesa, Neri, Cobianchi and Nadin. In the 6th lap
Gagliano broke the lull and took the lead after having
overtaken Montoro. During the 8th lap, Fucchi went
off track and was forced to withdraw from the race.
In the meanwhile, Alfieri overtook Guerrero to gain
the 6th place. In the 10th lap, Gagliano was leading
the race with Montoro in his wake. Alberto Cola was
third with a gap of 3’’, while Scarlato
followed 4’’ behind him. Takeshi was fifth,
followed by Alfieri, Guerrero, Gaspari, Compagnone,
Chiesa, Neri and Ferri, who had overtaken both De
Castro and Cobianchi. Placements remained the same
for a while and attention shifted to Montoro, who
was closely pressing Gagliano: the team Fg Racing
driver also recorded the fastest time in the 19th
lap, but still didn’t manage to launch his attack
against the driver of the Arrow team. In the 20th
lap, the leading pair was 4’’ ahead of
Cola, who was himself 4’’ ahead of the
group led by Scarlato, Takeshi and Alfieri. In the
22nd lap, Alfieri overtook Takeshi, trailing in his
wake also Colombian Guerrero. One lap before the end,
Guerrero attacked Alfieri, but this caused a collision
which both Takeshi and Gaspari benefited from. At
the finishing line, Gagliano was 6 tenths of a second
ahead of Montoro, and was crowned National and International
Champion. Davide Montoro concluded his good race 2nd,
having played an absolutely primary role, while Alberto
Cola climbed the 3rd step on the podium. Scarlato
seized the 4th place, followed by Takeshi, Gaspari,
Alfieri, Guerrero, Compagnone, Chiesa and Alessandra
Neri. Sabino De Castro finished 11th, preceding in
the final sprint Ferro, Cobianchi, Nadin and Freire.
