The
28 drivers entitled to enter the Finals after the
qualifiers, and the 6 drivers winning the repechage
of the B Final ensured a spectacular view at the starting
grid. Right before the green light, tension mounted:
the large screen showed close-ups of the deeply concentrated
young drivers, especially the pole man, Italian Riccardo
Agostini, who shared the first row with American Gabriel
Chavez. Another of the race main favourite drivers,
Piedmont-born Alberto Viberti, started from the second
row. On the other hand, some difficulties troubled
Defendi, burdened with expectation, as well as current
International Champion Jan Midrla: both started from
the 10th row. At the all-clear sign, Agostini spurted
very well, trailing Viberti in his wake, who quickly
overtook Chavez. Behind them, Chiara Felici had an
excellent start, too, attaining the 4th position ahead
of Giovesi, Tolfo, Maxa, Rocca and Midrla. Soon, Folli
ended up off-track at the railway bend, getting back
on the track with a great delay. The scrimmage involved
also Arone and Defendi, bringing up the rear of the
34-kart-long procession at the end of the first lap.
During the 2nd lap, Viberti attacked Agostini at the
braking for the hairpin bend behind the timekeepers,
and took the lead. In the course of the 3rd lap, Chavez
passed Chiara Felici to reach the 3rd position, but
the Rome-born girl got the better of him during the
following lap. The struggle for the 3rd placing became
pressing and made things easier for the pair Viberti
–Agostini, who immediately gained some ground.
After the 5th lap, American Sebastian Ordonez passed
3rd ahead of Chiara Felici, Maxa, Tolfo and Chavez,
all crammed into a few metres’ space. Nicolò
Rocca was 8th ahead of Klasterka, Lucia Miklavec,
Kiesel, Midrla, Giovesi and Ortega. Pietro Fittipaldi
was 21st fighting with Zanini, Barlassina, Erica Gallina
and Brambilla. After the 6th lap, Rocca reached the
hairpin bend too fast and lost a few positions, while
Radim Maxa took the lead of the chasing pack overtaking
Felici and Ordonez. At the 10th lap, Viberti was leading,
but Agostini was hot on his heels, just 2 tenths of
a second behind. Radim Maxa was 3rd, 4” behind
the leading pair, with Felici, Tolfo, Ordonez and
Chavez breathing down his neck. Klasterka, instead,
finished the lap in 8th position ahead of Midrla,
Miklavec, Tedeschi, Ranzini, Ortega, Kiesel, Giovesi
and Brena. The race was really thrilling and there
were plenty of head-to-head duels, in the leading
positions as well as in the back rows. During the
13th lap, one of the race leaders, Sebastian Ordonez,
sent his kart into a spin. The American, who already
climbed the podium in the past edition, got back on
the track 13th. During the final phases, Agostini
planned his possible attack against Viberti, and 2
laps from the end he managed to take the lead. Viberti
reacted right away, but Agostani, having a free track
in front of him, recorded the fastest lap of the race
gaining a margin of a few metres over his opponent.
Chiara Felici, too, tried to win her fight for the
3rd place, and took the lead of the pack ahead of
Maxa and Tolfo at the beginning of the last lap. In
the course of the last lap, Agostini kept Viberti
under control and took the chequered flag winning
both the National and the International titles. This
is a prestigious victory for the Italian driver that
is going to enrich his sports curriculum deservedly.
Once again, Alberto Viberti proved to be full of talent,
and even if he wasn’t able to oppose his rival
during the last stages of the race, his performance
was still definitely outstanding. The two Italian
drivers ran a perfect race, arriving ahead of the
best drivers of the category at international level.
The fight for the 3rd placing, instead, ended with
an accident at the last chicane, which precluded excellent
Chiara Felici from climbing the well-deserved podium:
the Rome-born driver was bumped by Maxa and flew off
the circuit overturning. Chiara was quickly assisted
and unfortunately diagnosed to have a fractured clavicle.
She will recover within approximately 30 days. Owing
to the collision, Maxa was slowed down, too, favouring
Tolfo, who was able to end his race 3rd. In any case,
the podium was well-deserved by the driver of the
Fg Racing team, who thus crowns a season always spent
at the top. The 4th placing went to Gabriel Chavez,
who ended ahead of excellent Lucia Miklavec and Jan
Midrla. Maxa managed to get back onto the track in
8th position ahead of Tedeschi, Ranzini, Ordonez and
the Polish champion of the Easykart 60 class, Jan
Kiesel. Jaime Ortega (Usa) ended his race 13th, followed
by Giovesi, Molnar, Tunjio, Mandozzi and Zanini, the
latter having climbed from the B Finals up to the
overall 18th position and ranking 10th in the Italian
National results. Pietro Fittipaldi finished his first
international competition with a 19th placing, ahead
of Rocca, Barlassina, Erica Gallina and Defendi.
