EASYKART 100 – International Grand Finals – Italian Finals

TRADING PLACES

The first coup de théâtre occurred during the launch lap: De Conto, 2nd in the tables, was a non-starter and only regained his position during the 2nd lap as granted by the referee, whereas Rossetti had to stop because of a chain breakage. However, De Conto’s manoeuvre is prohibited by the regulations and, as a consequence, when the driver from Veneto started the race from his position, he was already under enquiry by the Referees. At the start, Francescon slipped in front of Cavalieri, De Conto, Celegato, Tolfo, Chavez and the Polish Szczepanic, whereas Rocca, Rzucidio and Agostini were involved in a collision at the 1st turn. A much delayed Agostini eventually managed to recover. At the 2nd lap another off-track resulted in Bodrero and Amaya crashing against the guardrails near the referees. In the meantime De Conto overtook both Cavalieri and Francescon, taking the lead of the race. In this phase, too, the driver from Veneto attracted the Referee’s attention because of an alleged overtaking while yellow flags were showing. In the first stages, Celegato was also drawing attention to himself by climbing to 2nd position behind De Conto. At the 6th lap, Celegato was on the heels of the race’s leader who, on the turn leading to the stretch, made a mistake ending up on the grass. Celegato was also involved and followed the adversary into the dust but, whereas De Conto went back on the track and was still in front of everyone, Celegato lost 10 positions. This was an advantage for Francescon, who followed De Conto closely, whereas Tolfo surprised Cavalieri by gaining 3rd place. Once De Conto’s tyres were clean, he started progressing once again and, at the 10th lap, he was leading the race with 2” over Francescon who, in his turn, had the same margin over Tolfo, Cavalieri, Szczepanic and Chavez. Further back followed the good Lucia Miklavec, then Favetta, Mazzali, Formal, Defendi, Fossati and Barlassina. Halfway through the race, Celegato once again gained the public’s attention in a battle which involved Miklavec, Chavez and Formal. At the 15th lap, De Conto was still in the lead with a 3” margin over Francescon and, after having scored also the fastest lap of the race, he was in total control of the situation. Behind him Fransescon seemed not to settle for his position, whereas Cavalieri overtook Tolfo at the 20th lap, thus gaining the 3rd place. In the final stages of the race, Wrobel had to withdraw because of a collision, whereas De Conto crossed the finishing line first with almost 4” over Francescon. Cavalieri ended the race in 3rd position in front of Tolfo, whereas Celegato ended his run-up in 5th place. The Polish driver Szczepanic arrived 6th, in front of Lucia Miklavec and the American drivers Chavez and Formal. Favetta also ended the race among the top, in front of Mazzali, Midrla, Barlassina and Fossati. Alberto Villa, on the other hand, ended in 15th position, following his qualification with the “B” Final. At the end of the race, though, there was a damper for De Conto: the Referees excluded him from the tables because of the offence at the start. The driver from Veneto could in fact be amply justified by the fact that he was probably deceived by an ambiguous and contradictory communication from the referees. However, also in consideration of the other manoeuvre with yellow flags, De Conto decided not to resort to complaints and appeals. All that was left for him was a moral victory and the knowledge of having drawn attention to himself, both thanks to a great season and for a Final in which he played the leading role. The International and National title therefore went to Andrea Francescon, who is undoubtedly an emerging talent on whom Birel places many hopes. Also on the podium with Francescon were Cavalieri, who confirmed himself as one of National karting’s talents and one of the best products of Easykart, and the great Alessandr Tolfo.

The winner Andrea Francescon commented: “I am extremely pleased with my race. At the beginning I had a few problems, as the kart was sliding a little, but then things got better, even though today De Conto was out of my reach. I am sorry he was excluded; weighing up my first season in 100cc I cannot but be satisfied. ”

EASYKART 100 – “B” Final
DE BERNARDINIS IN PHOTO FINISH OVER VILLA

Alberto Villa immediately took the lead overtaking De Bernardinis, Torta, the Venezuelan Anina Riva Palacio, Bonacina, Zonzini, Molnar and Balada at the first passage. The referees immediately opened an enquiry on Torta who was found guilty of having gained several positions during the starting phase: the representative of Emilia Kart was penalised by 10”. Torta, however, immediately drew attention to himself by alternating a couple of times with De Bernardinis in 2nd place, while Angonoa went off track following a collision with Vanessa Polonia at the “parc fermé’ turn. Behind the leaders, Palacio managed to keep Bonacina and Zonzini under control with great authority, whereas at the 4th passage a collision put Schirosi and Caizzi out of play and Fontana had to stop because of a technical problem. But bad luck was also to affect the talented Anina Palacio, who was obliged to withdraw at the 8th lap having gone off track at the end of the starting stretch. At the 10th lap, Villa was followed closely by De Bernardinis, whereas Torta was 3rd at 2”. Zonzini slipped into 4th position, preceding Rivella, Bonacina, Balada and Molnar who, in this phase, managed to score the fastest lap of the race. During the 11th passage, De Bernardinis went to the lead and Molnar managed to overtake Zonzini. At the 14th lap, Villa answered back to De Bernardinis by also assisting Torta, who managed to close up the gap to the leader. Further back, a battle for the first 6 places was unfolding with no holds barred: Molnar managed to reach 4th place, whereas 7 drivers were fighting for the remaining two positions that would allow them access to the Final. Among these, Zonzini and Bonacina are more hard-hitting and managed to resist the attacks by Rivella, the Polish Ilona Zaniuk, Lamanuzzi, Boscolo and Riva. During the last stages of the race, De Bernardinis won at the photo finish by only 20 thousandth over Villa, whereas Torta finished behind the two leaders and still managed to reach the podium despite having been penalised by 10”. Molnar ended in 4th position, whereas Zonzini finished in front of Bonacina, the last one to qualify. Rivella, Zaniuk, Lamanuzzi and Boscolo on the other hand did not make the Final by a few thousandths and were followed by Riva, Sabina Raviglione, Bressan, Vanessa Polonia and Stoychev. Because of a collision, both Scotti and the Venezuelan Balada did not manage to cross the checked flag.

The winner Andrea De Bernardinis commented: “I am pleased about my victory, but for this afternoon’s Final we’ll have to do something both about the chassis and the engine which gave me some problems. I’ll aim at climbing as many positions as possible, hoping to do a good race.”
