FEDERICO MONTOYA HITS
THE TARGET
At the start of the launch lap,
Ballarini, in pole position, was left standing still,
although he eventually managed to start making it
into the 10th position. Cola and Monoya remained
at the front, gaining the 2nd and 3rd qualifying
time. At the start, the brother of the former F1
driver exploited as best as he could the inner line
and took the lead; behind him came Ruggeri, then
Cola, Pavan, Gagliano, Scheer, Sala, Scarlato and
Saravia. In the scrimmage of the first rows, Takeshi
looses his front spoiler, whereas Ferro and Marra
are obliged to withdraw. At the 2nd lap there was
also a collision between Ongaretto and Cobianchi,
the latter performing a complete loop. Luckily the
2004 International champion managed to come out
of the collision unhurt. At the 5th lap, Montoya
had already gained 5” over Gagliano who had
overtaken Pavan, Cola and Ruggeri, one after another.
Just behind the leaders came Dante, after having
overtaken the American driver Scheer and Scarlato.
But at 9th lap the driver of the Fg Racing team
was obliged to withdraw because of a technical problem.
In the meantime the leading Montoya imposed a high
rhythm and Gagliano was almost 3” away from
the Colombian driver. In 3rd place was once again
Cola, who preceded Pavan, Ruggeri, Scheer, Scarlato
and a great Von Moltke, who overtook both Saravia
and Arenas. The top position then settled with Montoya
controlling the race, whereas in the group at the
centre the Colombian Sala (who did the fastest lap),
Valori, Corradini, Blanco and Alfieri were fighting
to get back among the top ten. At the finishing
line, Federico Montoya conquered with authority
the International title, whereas Marco Gagliano,
as well as gaining the second position in the Italian
tables, won the category’s Italian title.
A great Alberto Cola, National vice champion, climbed
the third step of the podium. Ruggeri ended in 4th
place, David Pavan 5th in front of the Americans
Dominic Scheer and Dion Von Moltke. The Colombian
Arenas finished in 8th position, in front of his
countryman Saravia. Irish Scarlato was 10th and
also 5th in the Italian tables. Just behind the
top ten finished Martin Sala, then Valori, Corradini,
Blanco and Alfieri. The unlucky Ballarini, on the
other hand, finished 18th, behind Gaspari and the
Polish Strzsnniew.
The winner Federico Montoya commented:
“At the start I had a slight collision with
Cola, but then I managed to establish a good rhythm
and to gain a safety margin. Even though it took
me awhile to get the right feeling of the track,
I think the trim was very good. I am very pleased
to have won this important race in Italy.”

“B” Final
BARONI HAS NO RIVALS
Baroni jumped from the pole position
and immediately took the lead in front of Nadin,
Schirosi, De Castro and Finazzi, whereas Giuseppina
Iacuzzo was obliged to withdraw straight away due
to a breakage of the gas cable. Vasone was also
obliged to withdraw and went to the boxes during
the 1st lap. The tables remained the same; at the
5th passage, Baroni was in front of Nadin and Schirosi,
whereas De Castro followed at a short distance.
Finazzi followed in 5th position, whereas Fioravanti
overtook Ferro and gained 6th position. Campo, the
Polish Strzeniew, Colombo and Bertoia, followed
at a further distance. During the 13th lap, there
was a collision between Nadin and Finazzi which
resulted in the first one withdrawing. At the 20th
passage, Baroni has almost 7” over Schirosi
who, in turn, had to fend off De Castro. A great
Ghezzi achieved 4th position, by overtaking both
Fiorvanti and Ferro. Baroni crossed the finishing
line securing a clear and deserved victory, as well
as the 29th place in the starting grid for the title’s
Final. Schirosi and De Castro climbed on the podium,
whereas Ghezzi preceded Fioravanti and Ferro, the
last drivers who qualified, at the photo finish.
The Polish driver Jakub Strzeniew, the first one
who did not manage to qualify, arrived in front
of Colombo, Campo, Finazzi, Bertoia,Vendramin, Bambace,
Cristina Riva Palacio and Russo.
The winner Niccolò
Baroni commented: “ We found a great trim
and we also guessed the right tyre pressure. In
the final I took the liberty of checking the race:
all went well and I had a great time.”
