EASYKART 125 – B FINAL:
AND THE WINNER IS… KAITLIN MANGHAM
THE AMERICAN CAME FIRST IN A SPIRITED RACE AFTER A CONTACT
IN THE FIRST LAPS. A TECHNICAL PROBLEM STOPPED VIETS AT
THE LAST LAP WHEN HE WAS LEADING.
Francesco
Napolitano sprinted from the pole position into the Final
reserved to the 125 category drivers qualifying after the
28th position. Alongside him, excellent Antonio Briganti,
while Simone Orlando and Andrea Fioravanti started off from
the 2nd row. Alternatively, Sascha Viets, newly-established
champion of the Northeastern Area and Antonio Scanziani
started off from the last rows. The Fg Racing Team pilot
had to move to the rear positions because of engine problems,
while Scanziani's 2nd session times were cancelled because
he overtook when yellow flags had already been raised. At
the start off, Napolitano was in first place, in front of
Briganti, Andrea Fioravanti, Fucchi, Orlando, Scanziani,
Mangham and Ivano Cervoni. At the 2nd lap, Fioravanti overtook
Briganti moving into 2nd place, but the battle between the
two made it easy game for Napolitano who moved ahead a few
metres from the group. At the 3rd lap tough-minded Kaitlin
Mangham moved forward to attack Orlando, but the newly-established
American champion in the 125 Light category, made a braking
mistake and hit the Italian driver. Both returned to the
circuit later. At the 5th lap, Marco Fucchi ran off the
track after being attacked by Scanziani; the latter then
met up with the leaders after a few laps. Even Sasha Viets
managed to move up close to the leaders and recorded an
excellent time. At the 7th lap, Fioravanti and Viets were
close behind the leader, Napolitano, and just a fraction
behind, Ivano Cervoni and Scanziani. At the next lap, Napolitano
was overtaken twice by Viets that then took on the lead
of the race together with Fioravanti. In the meantime, Mangham
moved up again, from the rear, and managed to make the fastest
lap in the race; at the 10th lap, she was already in 6th
place and only 3” away from the leader group. In that
same lap, an accident at the rear involved Fucchi again
and the two Sicilian Briganti brothers. At the 15th lap,
Viets had a slight advantage on the leader group made up
of Scanziani, Fioravanti, Napolitano and Ivano Cervoni.
In the same lap, Mangham also met up with the trail of leaders
and at the next lap managed to overtake both Fioravanti
and Napolitano. Behind the leaders, Davide Spreafico was
in 6th place and managed to gain a discreet margin over
Pollicino, Ferri, D’Urso and the Campo brothers. Further
behind, Simone Orlando tried to move ahead again after the
contact in the first laps, while Max Gazzè was in
13th place with excellent chronometer times. 4 laps from
the end, Napolitano was forced to withdraw because of a
damaged tyre, while the American Mangham moved right behind
Viets. The final lucky turn occurred in the last lap: the
leader Viets incurred in a technical problem and had to
park his kart right on the straight finishing line. And
the winner was… Kaitlin Mangham. After running an
exceptional race, she arrived before Ivano Cervoni and Scanziani
that rushed to the finishing line. 4th place went to Andrea
Fioravanti, while Spreafico was 5th in front of Pollicino,
Ferri, D’Urso, Salvatore and Tommaso Campo.
